Volcano Sushi

For a date night, a birthday party, or a girl’s lunch out with friends, Volcano Sushi Bar & Hibachi is by far my favorite local sushi spot with rolls that are flavorful, creative, and generous with the fish. The service is excellent, the prices average, and the presentation is out of this world. The very first time I went there, we had an appetizer with a glowing light nestled beneath our dish and a very creative Banana Boat featuring a fried banana and scoops of ice cream. I’ve yet to try something I didn’t like and the friendliness of those who work there is consistent as well.

I’ve been here for date nights with my husband, mother/daughter dates with my girls, and birthday parties with 15+ people. Each time the food and service were consistently great.

Drinks:

For something sweet and alcoholic that carries a punch, try the Banzai. The combination of sake and plum wine is one of my favorites. Beware, it’s easy to drink and packs a punch.

Kids will enjoy the soda drinks that come in a bottle with a marble stopper to prevent them from spilling. If they haven’t had an Asian soda before, it will be a fun experience.

Appetizers:

The miso soup and salad that come with many of the non-sushi dinners are both very good. I love the cucumber salad. It has just enough wasabi in it to give it a kick. The seaweed salad is also delicious. If you can’t decide, get the cucumber salad, then order the Christmas Tree roll – that special sushi roll has the seaweed salad on top! The Wasabi Tuna Dumpling is heavy on the avocado. It’s delicious and filling. Each piece of thin raw tuna is filled with a generous scoop of mashed avocado. So good.

My youngest daughter loves the tempura shrimp which are also on the regular menu as a meal. She orders the appetizer every time and devours it.

Special Sushi Rolls: The menu does a great job describing each roll in detail; however, they don’t always specify if there’s a sauce included and many rolls have drizzles of different sauces across the top. If you are like me and don’t like surprise sauces, ask if it comes with one or just ask for it to come “plain” without sauce.

Desserts: If you think that sushi restaurants are the wrong place to order dessert, think again. These will surprise you.

At the time of this post, Volcano Sushi does offer a military discount. There is one private room in back where you can sit low, Japanese style, without shoes, and enjoy your meal quietly. Reserve ahead on busier nights.

Volcano Sushi has two locations. We go to the one in Moore at 2727 S I-35 Service Rd.
